School Events - 2012-13

Buddy Reading

"A house without books is like a room without windows."

Reading stories is a wonderful bonding experience that fosters meaningful one-on-one communication with our kids. It develops creativity and a child's ability to use his/her own imagination. Keeping this in mind we had a buddy-reading activity in our school to provide a strong, positive influence and build a foundation for a lifetime of significant benefits.

Food Fungama

"Food is our common ground, a universal experience. "

An Inter House Event "Food Fungama" was held in school to encourage our children to think outside the box and also to ignite a competitive streak in them. Classes I- II participated in Lemonade –Making, Classes III- IV participated in Salad –making and Classes V- VII participated in sandwich making. All the children were evaluated on appearance, taste and originality.

Baisakhi

The festival of Baisakhi was celebrated with fun and fervor by organising a special Assembly in the morning. Children of class VI explained that apart from being a harvest festival, it holds religious significance too as the tenth Guru founded Khalsa panth on this day 313 years ago. They presented a wonderful programme dancing on bhangra beats and getting everyone into a festive mood.

 

Mother's Day

Mothers Day is the time to say a big thank you to our mothers for being a constant guiding force in our lives. Children at OPG reflected on the importance of mothers in our life. They showed that it is time to think about all the pains our mothers take while we are sick, the hardships she goes through in bringing us up and all the sacrifices she makes so that we lead a better life.

 

Labour Day

OPG students celebrated Labour Day in School by giving away small gifts to our workers as a token of love and appreciation.To mark this day, a spectacular show was put up by the students of class III A for the entire school and the workers. The assembly reflected upon the importance of the helping hands of our workers. The children also made greeting cards for all the workers to express their gratitude towards them.

Best Out of Waste and Poster Making Inter-house Activity

OPGians participated in the activity with great enthusiasm. Children used their creative minds to transform waste material into something useful or beautiful. It helped them to understand that nothing is useless or a waste. We just have to think and use our imaginations to make a difference.

Rakshabandhan

OPG celebrated the auspicious festival of love and bonding between brother and sister i.e. Rakshabandhan with lot of enthusiasm. Class VII expressed its feelings through a skit depicting the true story of Humayun and Rani Karmavati in the morning assembly. Also the children sang and danced to the tunes of songs related to Rakshabandhan.

Talent Hunt

To install the feeling of doing better and then best, competitions play a major role. A talent hunt competition was conducted in the school where in various activities like painting, dance, recitation, debate etc. were judged. These activities were judged at the class level. These activities helped our children to create self discipline, maintain stage consciousness and also inculcate qualities of self expression by exploring their innate talents.

Summer Camp

Summer Camps transform school holidays into an enjoyable learning experience and OPG did the same for the kids this summer. The children loved the summer camp as they were entertained and did various activities like swimming, dancing, painting etc which they love. The response was immense and the prize for us was the big grins across all the kids' faces.

Book Week

Students participated in different competitions as part of the Book Week celebrations at OPG from 23 July '12 to 27 July '12. This year the events included Tell a tale, spin a yarn, spell bee, extempore and a book quiz. The week-long celebrations also had a "Parent involvement day" where the father of Siddhant Turlapati (of Class IV-B) gave a presentation on survival tactics of various extinct as well as to be extinct animals and plants. It was thoroughly enjoyed by the students of our school.

Independence Day

School celebrated the Independence Day with zeal. Tricoloured faces of students, tricolour bands in their hands and tricolour dresses worn by students filled the atmosphere with patriotic fervour. The emphatic speeches in English and Hindi by the students reminded one and all of the supreme sacrifice of the freedom fighters. The school campus echoed with the melodious patriotic songs. The energetic dance performance by students of class VI left everyone spell bound. Our Vice-principal Ms. Upadhayaya motivated students to make India the best country in the world.

Janmashtami

To mark the birth of Lord Sri Krishna, OPG celebrated Krishna Janmashtami on 8 August '12. and the students solemnize the festival with lot of joy and devotion. The students were dressed in their traditional attires. Sparkling performances by class VI and Pre-primary students created an environment of happiness and delight among the students.

 

OPG Kids Birthday Celebrations

OPG World School recognizes that birthdays are a special day for our students. School birthday celebrations are fun and leave your child beaming with birthday bliss! The goal of acknowledging a child’s birthday at school is to provide him/her with a day of feeling special on a special day. This goal is accomplished in many fun and creative ways in our school making our children feel special.

Gandhi Jayanti

The Gandhi Jayanti celebrations were held in school to commemorate Gandhiji’s birthday. This was followed by a prayer by the school children in the form of an ode to the Father of our nation. The students of class III took the audience through various stages of Gandhi’s life focusing on Gandhi’s childhood; Gandhi’s life in South Africa, and finally his life in India and his struggle for independence. The assembly was finally concluded with a short song by the students.

Joy of Giving Week

The Joy of giving week gives us an opportunity to come together as one family, to work together, encourage others and celebrate the spirit of volunteerism for a wonderful cause. OPG celebrated Joy of Giving Week by organizing various activities like making a Wish Tree, Joy of Thanks Giving, Joy of Music and Dance, Joy of Collage Making, Visit to Senior Citizen Home etc. It was amazing to see the manner in which these activities aimed to engage the entire OPG with the act of giving. Overall, the happiness on the faces of the students was so touching.

Dusshera and Diwali

To mark the auspicious Dusshera and Diwali celebrations, a special assembly was conducted by OPG World School with a lot of vigour and enthusiasm to enlighten students about the importance of the festivals. These festivals give an opportunity to children to understand the victory of truth over evil and live in a spirit of communal harmony. It also helps the children to understand the social, cultural and religious significance of these festivals.

Special Assembly by Fn and KG

Special assemblies are times of excitement and inspiration for the whole school. The school organized a special assembly by the Foundation and K.G students showcasing their immense talent. Well-coordinated dances, group songs and role play were showcased by students. The show created an environment of joy and happiness for parents who were happy to see their children perform with confidence on stage.

Trips and excursions

Trips and excursions are an important tool in teaching. They help to give students a practical feel of all theoretical experiences in a class room. We organize many trips at regular intervals to give students a feel of how the real world works. Other than enhancing the teaching-learning process our trips and excursions help to inspire our students to appreciate how the society works. They create a strong sense of understanding of the immediate environment and the world at large. We organize trips to different institutions like Railway museum, Air Force museum, fire station, grocery store etc. where children get a flavor that realms them to the real world.

This year an outstation trip to Agra and Bharatpur Bird Sanctury was also organized to develop self-reliance, teamwork and cooperation. It was also an attempt to acquaint our students with Indias’s multi-faceted culture and bring them close to Nature.

A trip to Eco Adventure park to make students daunting by providing challenges through various adventure activities like commando net, Burma bridge, river crossing etc. Children also had a magical experience through camel and bullock cart rides.

Sports Day

The children participated with great enthusiasm in the Annual Sports Day which was held on 10 November 2012. The sports meet was declared open by the ace polo player     Mr. Samir Suhag and was also graced by Mr. Saumya Dutta, an ace golf player. Both of them motivated the young athletes as they exhorted that winning is not important, it is the effort to win that counts. The yoga, gymnastics, taekwondo and skating presentations by the students won great accolades from the spectators. The sports meet turned out to be grand success with each OPGian participating in the event and exhibiting great sporting skills and spirit.

Annual Day

OPG celebrated its Annual Day on 25th December 2012. The chief guest was Mr. Jitender Das, Director Fore School of Management. The other guests of honor were esteemed Dr. B.B.L. Madhukar, former Director (HR) and Chairman and Managing Director of MMTC Ltd. and Ms. Kamini Narasimhan from Learn Today. The director Ms. Kavita Chandra presented the school Annual Report tracing the progress of the school encapsulating the major events and achievements. The musical extravaganza ‘Expressions of Love’ included many music based performances. The most riveting performance was the dance drama ‘Our Universe and the Five Elements’. The programme rose to a final crescendo with the grand finale and ended in a beautiful resonance lingering in the minds of everyone.

Parent Workshop

Parents are the most important people in a child’s life. By working together parents and school can enhance children’s learning and development. Its positive effects include an improved sense of well-being, enhanced student behavior, increased educational productivity of time that parents and children spend together, and greater parental satisfaction with teachers. OPG organized a Parent Workshop on Saturday, 19 January 2013 which was aimed at increasing parental involvement. The keynote speaker of the event was Ms. Saroj Thappa from Learn Today, who shared her experience and wisdom with us.

Republic Day

Republic Day celebrations marked the most memorable experience for the students of OPG World School this year as renowned cricket coach Mr. Raj Kumar Sharma (coach of famous cricketer Virat Kohli) visited the school to celebrate the momentous day. The function started with the flag hoisting ceremony.The students expressed their happiness and joy in form of colourful dances, speeches and skits. Students presented a beautiful cultural programme which reflected their patriotic fervor and showed the different colours of our nation.
